After her victory in the G1 Ashland Stakes over the weekend, I was really looking forward to Christmas Kid heading to the Kentucky Oaks (especially since I have a futures wager ticket on her at 50-1). Today, her trainer Jimmy Jerkens says she will skip the 1-1/8 mile Kentucky Oaks in favor of the one mile G1 Acorn at Belmont on June 9. OK, I understand that as a trainer you “fear” that she can’t go the distance, but, good god, have some cohunes and let her try! No, instead hold her out TWO freaking months for a one mile race. [drf]
Trainer and part owner Bruce Headley announced that three-year-old wunderkind du jour Magnificience will make her next start in the May 13 Railbird S. (G3) at Hollywood Park going seven furlongs.

Yes -- what a disappointment. I couldn't resist Christmas Kid in the Oaks pool ... especially after watching another Lemon Drop Kid offspring win it last year.
