Free Fun Stuff

I thought I would mention for those who may not already know several fun and interesting horse racing activities available on the web:

Do you think racehorses are given dumb names? Fancy you could do better? Here’s your chance. The New York State Thoroughbred Breeding and Racing Program is sponsoring a “Name the Foal” contest here. Submit suggestions for the Here’s Zealous-Ann Dear, by Grand Slam filly, and win four clubhouse passes to either Belmont Park or Saratoga Race Course. Contest ends May 25, and there does not appear to be any limit to the number of entries you can make. Good luck!

If you enjoy handicapping challenges, look no further than the Daily Racing Form’s free Public Handicapper Challenge, which begins May 4 (Kentucky Oaks) and ends October 27 (Breeders’ Cup). The top three finishers win entry into the 2007 DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship, and the overall winner receives a trip for two to the 2008 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at Santa Anita. Signup to play here.

Hit your betting limit for the week, or just broke until the end of the month? Try betting with play money at www.youbet.net, the sister site to the commercial for-real-money site www.youbet.com. At the play site, you start with $1,000 each day and can place all kinds of exotic bets at multiple tracks around the world, plus view the races for free (there is a maximum a/v limit each day, but it’s still pretty extensive access for free). You could also use this site just to hone your skills. They do have daily contests with prizes awarded.
