Just to give equal balance to the eastern part of the state, nominations are out for both the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby, and the $200,000 Turf Monster Handicap. Both will be run on Labor Day.
Chief contenders for the PA Derby appear to be Zanjero, Xchanger, Moyer’s Pond, Imawildandcrazyguy, Cable Boy, and Cowtown Cat (others nominated that probably won’t go are Any Given Saturday, Nobiz Like Shobiz, Curlin, For You Reppo, Grasshopper, First Defence, Longley, and Sightseeing—all have either run or are listed for other races).
For the Turf Monster, top contenders appear to be Christophe Clement’s In Summation, Kiaran McLaughlin’s Museeb, and Steve Asmussen’s Gaff—no Southwestern Heat :(
