BC Picks

Filly & Mare Turf (1-3/8 mile):

Danzon did a wonderful job on yielding turf at Churchill on Kentucky Derby day, in G1 Turf Classic against the boys—including Sky Conqueror. This will be her second race off a layoff, and she should be ready. If only The Cobra wasn’t her trainer! Still, I like her enough here.

1. Danzon
2. Honey Ryder
3. Passage of Time

Sprint (6 furlongs):

Ever since his huge G1 Forego win, Midnight Lute has been cranking out phenomenal workouts, including a blistering six furlongs in 1:09 and change. With Garrett Gomez now aboard, how can anyone go against him? Well…I’m going to try.

Had he gone in the Dirt Mile, I was willing to support Forefathers, but I’m not sold on him at six furlongs—I think he needs that little extra room to get going. For Talent Search, it's second start off layoff, and that first start was a second to Fabulous Strike (who I really wish was here). Idiot Proof beat my beloved Southwestern Heat in setting the six furlong track record here at Monmouth, so I'm rooting hard for him.

1. Talent Search
2. Idiot Proof
3. Forefathers

Just picks from here on out, as time's run out and I want to just enjoy watching. Good luck all!

Turf Mile (1 mile):

1. Excellent Art
2. Purim
3. Cosmonaut

Distaff (1-1/8 mile):

I love Tough Tiz’s Sis, and if the track were dry, she would totally be my pick. However, she run on off-tracks twice and not handled them well—specifically the G1 KY Oaks vs. Rags to Riches. So, as much as I will probably regret it, I’m betting against her. I like the Canadian invader, Bear Now who appears to be coming into her own with each race, but I’m not sure she can stay this distance—but I’m all in! Octave gets no respect, except from me. Lady Joanne will win—Street Sense will not—so give one to Borel and Nafzger.

1. Bear Now
2. Octave
3. Lady Joanne

Turf (1-1/2 mile):

1. Grand Couturier
2. Better Talk Now
3. English Channel

Classic (1-1/4 mile):

I’m going with my heart here. I love gutsy Hard Spun, and would be thrilled if he gets it done too. But I love Tiago more…

1. Tiago
2. Hard Spun
3. Curlin
