Wow! The off-track conditions at Monmouth resulted in some HUGE BC payouts on Friday. First, as predicted, Dream Rush and La Traviata set blazing fractions in the sloppy mess, and, while my pick Miss Macy Sue was there at the end, it was 8-1 Maryfield who got the surprising (?) win, with extreme longshot 43-1 Miraculous Miss finishing for second. 5-1 Miss Macy Sue completed a $2 trifecta that paid $1,756.80. Another one of my selections, Baroness Thatcher, came in fourth, rounding out $13,576 superfecta. Nice ride by Elvis Trujillo on Maryfield, and what a “feel-good” story—a once $50,000 claimer done good…real good. A deserving F&M Sprint champ!
In the Juvenile Turf, Prussian set the early pace, but couldn’t hold, as the deep closers Nownownow and Achill Island got up to finish 1-2. Longshot Cannonball (with Elvis Trujillo) got up for third, just ahead of my pick Strike a Deal. The $2 superfecta paid $16,660.60.
The “great” Corinthian showed up today, and whipped the Dirt Mile field very impressively—in near track record time, despite the slop! Local hero Gottcha Gold got place, while Discreet Cat just nosed out Wanderin Boy for third. While the payouts were lower for this race (still, the $2 exacta paid $60.20), the $1 Pick 4 (4-4-7-8) paid a whopping $24,235.30! No one hit the Pick 6, which resulted in an $82,024 carryover.
I’m off to studying tomorrow’s races, and will post those soon. The track looks to be off on Saturday as well…just food for thought. Finally, let me just say that the commercial that aired on ESPN’s BC coverage for Rock Hard Ten was totally offensive, cheap, sleaze, and not at all what I expect from Lane’s End. The porn star voice-over purring “Rock…Hard…Ten” was low-class. Shame!
