Sad news, indeed, today with the unexpected death of promising three-year-old filly High Again who collapsed during a workout at Payson Park Training Center in Florida. The Bill Mott charge was expected to start in the G1 La Brea at Santa Anita; an autopsy will be performed at the University of Florida in Gainesville, but a heart attack is suspected. Ironically, her sire died in France of a heart ailment just 8 days ago.
On a happier note, good to see that filly sprinter Dream Rush will return to racing as a four-year-old, after her purchase by Halsey Manor at the Keeneland November sale (for $3.3 million). She’ll stay with trainer Rick Violette; apparently, they are already plotting out a campaign that will begin at Gulfstream and have its first major goal the Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs on the first Saturday of May.
Two-year-old filly sensation One Hot Wish is back in training, and looks good! She posted two nice four furlong workouts this week at Gulfstream—47:60 (9/27) on 12/7, and 48:40 (9/19) on 12/13. In case you’ve forgotten, she posted a 12-1/4 length victory, in her first start, at Keeneland back in April, posting a mind-blowing 48:87 for the 4-1/2 furlongs. Her August G3 Sorrento Stakes' start was not nearly as successful; hope she's on track again for a strong three-year-old campaign.
One final set of exams to finish grading (Roman Art), and then I'm frrreeee! Yippee!

I would be very curious to see if there are any useful statistics maintained on sudden heart attacks in racehorses that might suggest any sort of genetic component; it seems not unlikely in this case, and of course it also brings to mind Swale and a fair few others.
Your Roman Art exam reminds me that I have a lovely t-shirt somewhere that identifies the major varieties of Etruscan vessels by shape...the things left over from grad school!
very sad indeed...
