Wednesday’s Longshot Flyers

PID Race 6: #7 Britt’s Richter (ML 8-1)

A 5-year-old with only two races under his belt looks unlikely here against up-and-coming 3-year-olds like #6 Alphabet Magic and #8 Honest Trip, but the Arterburn father-daughter team look to have this gelding primed to stretch out to 8f with three strong, long workouts since his last start. Actually, a 6-7-8 tri (boxed) looks very likely here.

MTH Race 9: #3 Intuition (ML 10-1)

A first-time starter, with excellent gate works including a bullet 5f over an off-track most recently. This 2-year-old filly sold for $115,000 last September at Keeneland, well above her sire During’s stud fee ($5,000) and average ($24,200). Her dam Miss Maggie was G2-placed (Prioress) and has produced 2 winners from 3 starters.

DMR Race 7 (G3 Sorrento): #8 Evita Argentina (ML 8-1)

Lots of talented 2-year-old fillies in this race with early speed—Cosmic Queen, Trifecta King and Glitter City—so I’m looking for a closer when those burnout. This daughter of Candy Ride won at first asking (at nearly 20-1) and has four excellent works leading to this, including a long 6f bullet work most recently. John Sadler and Tyler Baze are striking at 50% (70% ITM), so I’m thinking this little lady is sitting on a big race.

UPDATE: Wednesday’s longshot flyers results: Britt’s Richter scratched at Presque Isle, while at Monmouth, 17-1 first-time starter Intuition got third ($4.40 show) behind Northern Belle ($3.80 win) and Misty Rose ($3.80 place), with the $1 tri paying $51.70.

In the G3 Sorrento, it was 7-1 Evita Argentina who impressively won for her sire Candy Ride, paying $17.20 win, and keying a 8-6-2 $1 tri that paid $100.70 with the two top favorites in second (6-5 Stardom Bound) and third (2-1 Emmy Darling). I loved the way Tyler Baze gave her some loving in the winner’s circle after dismounting, cradling her head and giving her kisses. Very cute.

Do you have the early numbers on Candy Ride? I liked him and would like to know how he is doing.

If he passes on just a little of his talent, watch out.

He's currently #7 on the First-Crop Sire List, and #27 on the Juvenile Sire List, with 4 winners out of 15 starters. His first winner was El Brujo who won over the Woodbine polytrack on June 8; he recently finished 2nd in the Claredon Stakes at Woodbine.

His stallion page is here: http://www.bloodhorse.com/stallion-register/sr_sire_page.asp?refno=5902892
