Not his finest film, but Paul Newman who died today at 83 put Johnstown and, in many ways, hockey, on the map with the classic Slapshot. Here's an Iron City just for you, Reg Dunlop.

I have loved Paul Newman as long as I can remember. At my job we have diversity training and we were asked who we would want to have dinner with dead or alive, most people said Jesus, i said Paul because he is one of the greatest philanthropists of all time let alone his influence in the cinemas. I do not think we will ever have another like Paul, I am glad I was lucky enough to be on this earth when he graced it.
They also filmed some of Slap Shot in Syracuse when I was a kid and I got to be an extra down at the War Memorial. RIP Paul Newman.
Eddie Shore... Old time hockey... those were the greats!
One of the funniest, but in many ways, saddest films ever....
No matter what else he did, Paul Newman will alway be Slap Shot to me. All the rest of 'em pale compared to it...
