The Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November sale gets underway at 3:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, with the grand finale offering being broodmare extraordinaire Better Than Honour (#188), dam of Rags to Riches, Jazil and Casino Drive. Another highlight promises to be Breeders’ Cup G1 Juvenile Fillies victress Stardom Bound (#65). You can view a virtual sale catalog here.
Whether fearing a weak market or for other reasons, some key “outs” already announced include Pure Clan (#42), Black Mamba (#91), Zaftig (#93), American County (#97), Grace Anatomy (#150), and one I had my eye on, Dawn After Dawn (#125).
If I had the wherewithal, there are three mares I would snap up in a hot minute. I’m looking for stamina and/or turf breeding, so I admire the gritty Honey Ryder (#175) who is pregnant to Giant’s Causeway. So too Kettleoneup (#171), a hard-trying G2 winning 1/2 sister to iron horse Golden Hare; she is pregnant to Bernardini.
Finally, I really wish I could afford Green Door (#153); this 4-year-old hasn’t taken the world by storm on the track, but her promising forays on turf and her breeding (Danzig out of Too Cool to Fool, by Foolish Pleasure) are enough to want me to see her bred to Galileo (okay, so I’m reaching for the moon) since his sire Sadlers’ Wells is pensioned. The Foolish Pleasure/Sadlers’ Wells cross has resulted in some nice horses, including Grand Couturier and Desert Fox.
And if I had any money left over? Well, I would have to treat my dear blogger friend Kevin over at The Aspiring Horse Player to a little gift: Deputy (#128) by Hadif out of the Deputy Minister mare Sherriff’s Deputy. Sound familiar? Deputy is a 1/2 sister to Curlin, and she’s in foal to his sire Smart Strike.
