Sunday’s Races at Gulfstream:

I happened across a number of free Brisnet reports for Sunday’s races at Gulfstream so, while watching “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”, I handicapped these:

Race 2:
Fearless Eagle (first time Lasix, with Bejarano up for Ed Plesa, drops in class and good recent workouts)
Sudden Rock (sharp recent workouts, early speed who may benefit from running shorter distance)
Ghost of Texas (first time starter with hot jockey in Rajiv Maragh, good recent workouts and excellent producing dam)
Better Than Enough (first time starter with strong dam success, good workouts, with Elvis Trujillo up)

Note: did not consider Matz’s Evil Empire who, even with huge drop in class, has had two poor workouts since last race, and Matz' hasn't had success at Gulfstream this meet.

Race 4:
You’rejustlikeme (with big win last time, and fast early speed, hot trainer)
Winning Appeal (2 strong recent races at this distance)
Time to Indulge (with Bejarano up, drop in class, great post position with nice recent workouts)

Note: despite Scott Lake-Rajiv Maragh connections, I don’t see Uphold as favorite since beaten by Winning Appeal last time out. Still, could be there in the mix.

Race 6:
Mangiaracina (excellent recent finishes, with 4 straight places, excellent recent workouts, same 95 Beyer as favorite last race)
Zurich (Bill Mott trained, with Cornelio Velasquez up, 3rd race from layoff, 91 Beyer last race, never out of money at 1 mile distance, and out of turf master sire Giant’s Causeway)
Forward Move (the favorite with Prado up and strong recent Beyer, good workouts)

Race 7:
Simply Divine (not raced in 5 months but excellent recent workouts, trainer Ken McPeek with Kent Desormeaux up, highest recent Beyer)
Moral Suasion (first time start but excellent workouts, Barclay Tagg trained with Cornelio Velasquez up, 1st time Lasix, dam has 3 winners from 4 starters)
Spanish Spirit( likewise excellent sire and dam for winners, first time starter, sharp recent workouts)
Reata’s Hope (first time starter with excellent sire/dam, hot trainer and excellent workouts)

Note: I like Pletcher-Velazquez’ Dani Tom Boy, especially with strong recent workout, but Dixie Lyrics hasn’t exactly impressed with recent workouts, despite good Beyers and success last year)

Race 8 (G3 Herecomesthebride Stakes):
Perfect Motion (never out of money, with three prior stakes races, and three straight second place finishes, second race after layoff and decent recent workouts)
Communique (3rd race after layoff, third last time out behind Dreaming of Anna in Gaily Gaily Stakes)
Dantrelle Light (change to Bejarano, second race after layoff, fourth in Gaily Gaily in February)
Sharp Susan (looks to go off as the favorite, trained by Mott and ridden by Cornelio Velasquez, BUT no success in prior stakes races, although broke equipment in Belmont race last October including Christmas Kid; won allowance race last time out with 89 Beyer, middling workouts)

Note: yes, Pletcher-Velazquez team up with My Golden Quest, but never tried on grass, and middling recent workouts.

Race 9:
Rummada (50% trainer up 2 classes, rough trip last time for second, 80 Beyer and excellent recent workout)
Sigmondo (2 good tries, excellent recent workout, Linda Rice trained, with Eddie Castro up)
Speedball Howie (2nd last start vs. similar, good workouts)
Bold Promise (3rd vs. similar last start, with good workouts)
Voltage (2 good efforts vs. similar, 81 Beyer, nice recent workout, with Lezcano up)

Note: Scottish Diamond appears to be favorite coming down in class and two Beyer in 80s, however, recent workouts are very disappointing.

Race 10:
Can’t Sleep (shorter distance than recent, hot trainer, excellent recent workouts)
Crazy Cousin (early speed who has lasted for longer distances, coming up in class but could do well here)
Sophisticatedevent (early success on short distance turf, with 87 Beyer last two times out on longer dirt routes)
Sarah’s Smiler (success at distance, with Michael Pino trainer, Prado up, but last workout not impressive)
