Race 2:
Fearless Eagle ($7.20 to win) and Sudden Rock ($2.80 for show); Better Than Enough apparently hit the gate hard coming out and never posed a threat in finishing fifth, and Ghost of Texas pressed the pace early, only to fade to last. Ruled by Chocolate paid $13.60 to place…I had a gut feeling just based on that name, then threw out the temptation, unfortunately :(
Race 4:
You’rejustlikeme ($7.00 to win) and Winning Appeal finished just a nose behind the third place finisher Uphold ($3.00). One horse I didn’t consider, Eliza’s Grey ($5.80) was a clear second. The post time favorite Time to Indulge hit the gate, reserved off the pace then faded to last.
Race 6:
Forward Move ($3.60 to win), with Mangiaracina ($2.60) in third, and Zurich just a nose behind in fourth. The long shot Lord Stripes ($8.80) poked his nose ahead of Mangiaracina for second.
Race 7:
Reata’s Hope was scratched. Princess Janie ($6.40) just outran Simply Divine ($5.60) for the win, with Dani Tom Boy ($3.20) third, followed by Moral Suasion. Spanish Spirit finished ninth and was never a factor after being bumped at the start, then stumbled. I have no excuse with Princess Janie…I must have overlooked her since I read the Bris report on Adobe Reader; next time I’ll print it out and circle like crazy :)
Race 8:
Sharp Susan ($5.80) led wire-to-wire, with Communique ($4.80) closing quickly for place, and Perfect Motion ($3.00) hanging in for show just ahead of My Golden Quest. Dantrelle Light was among the leaders all the way, but was three wide and tired to finish sixth.
Race 9:
My top pick Rummada was a late scratch. Speedball Howie ($7.40) outran the late closing Bold Promise ($13.80) to win, with Oberman ($6.00) finishing third, just ahead of Sigmondo. The 7-9 $1 exacta paid $40.20. The 6/5 favorite Scottish Diamond had no kick and finished next to last; after bumping with Sigmondo at the start, Voltage finished just ahead of the favorite, in sixth place.
Race 10:
I really blew this race (maybe tiring of analyzing the card?). The favorite Lookin Back At You ($6.20) won easily, with Miss Willow ($11.80) very impressive from start to finish in second, and Sarah’s Smiler ($4.20) in third, with Dynamite Diva fourth. Crazy Cousin finished fifth after running three wide and tiring. Sophisticated Event was seventh and Can’t Sleep was ninth—both non-factors throughout. This one I just don’t understand :(
