Lookie What the UPS Man Brought...

Ah, what a lovely surprise today, as the UPS man delivered a weighty box filled with eight volumes of pure reading bliss (for a pedigree geek, like myself)—eight volumes of horses to be sold in the November Breeding Stock Sale at Keeneland. I’ve just started to examine volume 1 (November 5 and 6), and imagine my surprise at some of the fillies and mares available the first two days: Barancella, Baroness Thatcher, Bushfire, Hystericalady, Mary Delaney, Mauralankana, Oprah Winney, River’s Prayer, Roshani, Wildcat Bettie B, and Wild Gams. Wow!

The 2008 stud fees are currently being set, and as expected considering the success of Curlin, Fabulous Strike, English Channel and other offspring, Smart Strike’s fee will go from $75,000 to $150,000 at Lane’s End. Lemon Drop Kid goes from $20,000 to $35,000, while Pleasant Tap, from $15,000 to $25,000. Others are being adjusted downward, namely Storm Cat, from $500,000 to $300,000 at Overbrook Farm.

Tomorrow we should find out the complete list of pre-entries for the Breeders’ Cup, but I have to ask, are the tickets for Friday not selling well? How else could they be GIVING AWAY tickets to college students that day? Do you think my university faculty ID could pass for a student's ID, pretty please?

Oh, and nice to see Frank Stronach cracking his wallet open to supplement Ginger Punch for the BC Distaff, although his Citronnade will not be heading to Monmouth.

The European invaders are slowly emerging, as George Washington is expected to try the Classic again, and Red Rocks will defend his Turf title. Jessica over at Railbird has compiled an excellent tentative list of pre-entries for the BC, but note that Turf prospect Sunriver is already entered in Sunday’s C-G1 Canadian International at Woodbine.

So what's with female educators and the racetrack? You, Superfecta, and I--what's the dissertation theory in this confluence?

It's definitely a thinking woman's sport, that's how I explain it. Just like hockey :0

Can I get in on this theory? I used to be a riding instructor for children 6-13... ^-^

Nice Catalog. I'm pouring over the B.C. Advanced Form today. I see Tough Tiz's Sis in listed, but I don't know if they've paid the money to supplement. I didn't see Patrick Biancone on the trainer list if I'm not concerned about the breeding shed, I want my horse to have as much cobra venom as they can stand. Enjoy the sales catalog, looks nice.
