Four Acres and Frisky Spider
Photo: Rock and Racehorses (Sarah K. Andrew)
Last year I wrote several times about long-time maiden Four Acres (75 races), including how he was being offered for sale on CANTER New England. I went looking recently to see if he is still available, to no avail. Someone emailed last year that they had gone to Suffolk and learned his trainer Bessie Nichols had moved on to Ohio where I see she is now in action (River Downs). If anyone knows what has become of Four Acres, please email me or leave a comment here.
While I was perusing the CANTER Mid-Atlantic site, I stumbled across a favorite from the past—Frisky Spider. In 2004, he was on the Derby trail, but turned out to be a better sprinter. He led the G2 Fountain of Youth before fading, the same scenario as his next outing, the G1 Florida Derby (won by Friends Lake). Dropping down in class, Frisky Spider won the Francis "Jock" LaBelle Memorial Stakes at Delaware, and then 8f Restoration Stakes over the Monmouth turf. He raced with some success in stakes company, but eventually dropped down to the claiming ranks. In January 2008 he suffered a fractured sesamoid and is now being offered for adoption or possible stud duty.
Take a good look at this beautiful boy...have a spare acre or two?
