Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes Nominations

Nominations are out for Presque Isle Downs’ three stakes races to be held on September 15 (next Saturday).

For the $400,000 Masters Stakes for 3up f/m at 6 furlongs (designed to serve as a prep for the BC Filly/Mare Sprint), there are 39 nominations. Most notable among them are: Baroness Thatcher who was nosed out by Maryfield in the G1 Ballerina; Appealing Zophie, third last out in the G3 Victory Ride (convincingly won by La Traviata); Control System who hasn’t been seen since her win in the G3 Cicada in March; Todd Pletcher’s G City Gal, third last out in the G2 Honorable Miss (but she’s scheduled to run in the G3 Endine at Monmouth this weekend); Jazzy, winner last out of the Capades Stakes at Saratoga over Stormy Kiss; Lady Belsara, winner of the G3 Chicago Handicap last out; Mary Delaney, last seen finishing well out it in the G2 Vagrancy Handicap, although she had reeled off three stakes victory this year, including the G2 Madison Stakes at Keeneland in April; Miraculous Miss who finished well for third in the G1 Ballerina; Miss Macy Sue who reeled off four stakes victories this year before finishing 4th last out in the G2 Honorable Miss Handicap at Saratoga; River’s Prayer who has won five consecutive stakes this year including the G3 Rancho Bernardo Handicap at Del Mar; Tres Dream who just missed winning the Inaugural Stakes at Presque Isle on opening night; and confirmed starter Shaggy Mane, last since July 7 beaten by ½ length to River’s Prayer in the G1 Princess Rooney Handicap.

The $175,000 Presque Isle Mile nominations include: Diabolical, although we know now that ain’t happening since his purchase by Darley; In Summation, winner of the G1 Bing Crosby and Arlington Spring Handicap; Gouldings Green last seen defeating Palladio in the G3 Seagrams at Woodbine; Lewis Michael, winner of the G2 Washington Park Handicap last out; and Super Frolic, last seen finishing a distant second to Costa Rising in the Evangeline Mile.

Nominations for the $175,000 Karl Boyes Memorial Northwestern PA Stakes (3up, 5.5 furlongs) include: Diabolical; TBA-favorite Spooky Mulder; millionaire multi-graded stakes winner Weigelia; G3 Aristides winner Fabulous Strike; 2006 Cornhusker Handicap winner Siphon City; Monmouth-invader and track record holder Joey P.; and Maggi Moss’ Indian Chant, winner of the Prairie Meadows Sprint this year, and Churchill Downs track record holder at 6 furlongs.
